What is this SEO thing?

Welcome to the confusing world of Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO as it’s so often referred to).

If you’re running a small business and have a website (or are looking at getting a website), you’re probably hearing a lot fancy jargon being thrown around. It’s almost like joining the public service with a myriad of acroynms – SEO, SEM, CMS… the list goes on and on!

But, do you need it? Or can you just pop up your details on your website and “if we build it they will come”?

The problem is, Google (and other search engines) has a LOT of websites to go through. So there has to be a way for their computers to work out what to show you when you search for something.

Having a great brand and loyal customers is fantastic, but to stand out on the web (and come up in Google search results), you’ll need to make sure you have good, strong, readable content and just as importantly, a technically sound website (so when google sees it, it doesn’t see a tonne of messy code, doesn’t wait what feels like a lifetime for the website to load and knows that when people are directed to your website, they are likely to get the information they are after (or be directed to someone who can help them with what they need). 

How can I help you with SEO?

There are a lot of dodgy SEO people out there (just check out your spam emails, they’re always there and ready to promise the world!)

I specialise in technical on-site SEO, which means that I look at your website and find ways to improve things to make it faster, more crawlable (readable by Google) and I can give you tips about how to improve the look and feel to make sure things flow nicely. 

I’ve been through Kate Toon’s Recipe for SEO Success course, so I have this knowledge to back me up as well as up to date information from a trusted source (as much as any information can be up to date with SEO – everything changes, but there are certain things that we can do to show you’re a genuine business with great things to offer – both to potential clients and to Google). 

Here are a few things I offer, to help you with your websites SEO (I don’t have ongoing monthly plans for SEO, but depending on the audit results, I can set up a 6 or 12 month plan to get everything done and spread out the work and cost over that time so it isn’t one big hit to start with).
